Phillips Remodel

So we bought a house this summer. A cute duplex from the 1940s. We decided to do a little DIY renovation when we moved in and I have been meaning to post before and after pictures since August, but there was always just one more project to do before I wanted to take picture. Then today I just decided that maybe they will never happen so it was good enough. So here it....

LIVING ROOM:

 After:
We refinished the floors, added crown modeling, painted, and got a new fan.

After:
The biggest project of the whole thing was the CEILINGS!!! The house had gross popcorn ceilings which we took down ourself and then we smoothed the ceiling ourself too. It was the hardest thing we did for sure. There was a crack/bulge in the ceiling you can kind of see in the picture below that Matt and Grant Rencher (awesome guy from my ward growing up that was also a 4th grade teacher at my elementary school) totally fixed which was huge!

After:
Our make shift Mudroom

This leads us to the next room- The kitchen!

KITCHEN:

After:
I love so many things we changed, but a huge one is the FLOOR. We pulled up multiple layers of old linoleum and put down oblong slate (looking) tile

After:

Adding cabinets and a countertop made the kitchen so much bigger! I love it. Maybe someday soon we will actually get hardware for the cabinets- one step at a time.

A dishwasher that works amazingly!

Countertop. I love the change.

BATHROOM:

Same color as the Kitchen. They color looks a little different in pictures due to weird lighting.

After:
New vanity and flooring--> same flooring as kitchen too

With such a small bathroom we definitely wanted more storage, so I had some fun and actually got us a lot of storage.

Ikea spice racks to hold hair products, toothbrushes, make up brushes, and to be a towel rack.

Wire basket on the side of the vanity to hold curling iron and flat iron. They can go in when they are hot. It is so nice.

OFFICE:

Before:

 After:
We pulled up the carpet and there was the original hardwood underneath. We also painted and added molding.

This cart from ikea can seriously be used for anything.

Reading corner

Storage corner. It is a small house, which makes us find ways to store things.

BEDROOM:

Before:

 After:
I love the ikea shelf as an end table because our room is small and so it can hold a lot and be used for decoration.

Jewelry

Again ripped up the old carpet

New fan

We love our house and I loved making it feel like ours. Also I know that our house is basically an ikea ad. You should see how many of those little allen wrenches we have collected.

These are a few of our favorite things

Guess what tomorrow is..... Yeah no one will know, but tomorrow we will have been married 2 1/2 years. That is really crazy. I can't believe it. Thinking about how long we have been married I realized that it has been a long time since I blogged. I'll admit it, blogging is not my strong suit.
Since it has been so long I thought I would give a little update on what is going on in our lives.

These are just a few of our favorite things to do:

We love going to sports games together. Especially BYU games when we go visit our families or when they come play in California. Also we are Jimmer fans, kind of Sacramento Kings fan, but mainly just Jimmer fans.

We love going on trips.

We really really love food. When I look through my pictures I think we are always eating. This is also the basis of Matt's love of groupon. We usually have a few restaurant groupons on reserve to fuel our love of food.

We also really love visiting our families. We got to spend a fun week and a half with our families over Christmas break, and luckily for us Matt's brother is getting married in March so we get to see everyone again.

This one is really just for me. I have recently decided that I like doing crafty things. It might be my attempt to be like a house wife, but I really think I am going to have to give pinterest all the credit for my new found love of DIY.

We love going to the temple, and isn't temple square just beautiful with the lights on.

This one is more of a hope than a fact. We kept a dog for 1 day, and I think it may have convinced Matt to love dogs. Well I am hoping at least. I have always loved dogs, so maybe some day will get to have one for longer than a day.

We also love being outside. Obviously we don't like picnics in the snow, but we do like both warm and cold weather. The warm is for the picnics and when it is snowy and beautiful all I want to do is ski.

Last, but definitely not least we (I) LOVE Disneyland. I couldn't not put that on here. We got to go in October and it was so fun.

Okay so you won't ever see me more happy. Ice cream cookie sandwich at Disneyland. Now those really are two of my favorite things.

Oh yeah I guess we also like each other quite a bit. I mean we have been married for 2 1/2 years. That counts for something right?

Anyways, I really am planning on doing better at updating our blog especially since we don't live by our family any more. That's my plan, but I make no promises since as previously stated, remembering to update my blog is really one of my weaker points. Don't worry I am not self-conscience about it. I know I am good at other things.
